Watering
By Chris Harrison
Water, water, water…that’s all I can
say. With my own yard, I started watering early and I created a
watering schedule. I watered in the morning and I watered in the
evening. I didn’t miss a beat. Believe me, from my own personal
experience it does work. After a few weeks the grass was coming in
and looking great. By the end of the summer, we were getting
compliments from our neighbors and friends about what our secret was.
Some people thought our yard was a couple years old. Obviously I took
the credit, but little did they know that good old H2O deserved all
the praise.
I’ve had the opportunity to work with
two brand new yards. As I just mentioned, our 2nd yard was
done the right way and turned out great. But it wasn’t always that
way. We learned from our previous mistakes. Only one word can
describe our first yard, and that word is…disaster. We watered seldom
and when we did water it wasn’t uniform where some areas received a
lot of water while other areas received very little. In the end most
of the straw blew away, some of the grass seed washed away (remember
moist…not drown!), and what was left was drowned out by the weeds that
overtook our yard. It was a complete and utter mess. We were
lucky…fortunately we were able to move because of a job change. Last
time I passed the house I saw sod had replaced our previous “yard”.
By doing it right from the start, you
won’t face the nightmare that we faced. In the long run you’ll save
money and you’ll save time. When in doubt…water!
